Eligibility Criteria
- Income Limit:
- The gross annual family income must be below ₹8.00 lakh.
- This includes income from all sources such as salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc., for the financial year prior to the year of application.
- Property Ownership Limitations:
A family will not be eligible for EWS status if it owns or possesses any of the following assets:
i. Agricultural Land:
- 15 Bigha or more in rural areas.
ii. Residential Land:
- 1 Bigha or more in rural areas.
- 1.5 Katha or more in notified Municipal Corporation, Municipal Board, or Town Committee areas.
iii. Residential House:
- A house with a built-up area exceeding 1,000 sq. ft. in a notified Municipal Corporation, Municipal Board, or Town Committee area.
- Clubbed Property:
- All property held by the family in different locations or places will be combined when determining eligibility under the land/property holding test.
Definition of Family
The term “family” includes the following members:
- The applicant seeking the reservation benefit.
- His/her parents.
- Siblings below the age of 18 years.
- The applicant’s spouse.
- The applicant’s children below the age of 18 years.
Exclusions
If a family exceeds any of the specified income or property limits, it will be excluded from being identified as EWS, irrespective of their income.

To apply for an EWS certificate in Assam, the following documents are typically required:
- Income Certificate: Issued by the competent authority.
- Identity Proof: Aadhaar card, PAN card, or voter ID.
- Address Proof: Utility bill, ration card, or passport.
